Ships2Shores Short Films Week-long Project (February 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11) 1pm

Ahoy mates! Join our Skippers aboard Ships2Shores exciting week-long film project! Learn the basics of film editing and get some tips for making great short films. To help us cast off, think about “What does the word marine mean to me?” Yes, that’s our theme around which you will develop your own short (2-minute maximum) films! Our Skippers will be there to provide real time support and feedback. Brace yourselves, this is what our week of activities will look like!
- Monday – Introduction to DaVinci Resolve software. Plus, discussion on your ideas for your films. Receive instructions and guidance around your next steps.
- Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. You will have the chance to work on your short film projects and receive real time support.
- Friday. Let’s have a show and tell. Final films should be 2 minutes maximum!
To prepare, before Monday’s session:
- Think about the theme “What does the word marine mean to me?”
- Gather your pictures, video clips … all you would like to use in your films. Remember you will be editing and trimming! Final films should be 2 minutes maximum!
Fatima OzenShips2Shores Skipper - Short Films & Cinema Enthusiast
Fatma Ozen is an academic researcher, aspire-to-be film scholar, cinema enthusiast and amateur storyteller based in Toronto.
She received her master’s degree in Cultural Studies from Trent University. She worked on changes in women’s representations in Turkish Cinema from the 1980s to the 2000s – New Turkish Cinema. A Part of her work has also been published in peer-reviewed CINEJ Cinema Journal.
Fatma has been involved in several organizations since 2017 as a researcher, content creator, coordinator, programmer, film critic and member.
Her research interests include gender and sexuality, queer, diaspora, structuralism, transnational cinema, and media. In her teaching career she led lectures in the subjects of Media, Popular Culture and Gender.
Rachelle Duetsch*Ships2Shores Skipper - Short Films Lead
Rachelle is a youth that is part of the Ships2Shores National Skippers Council. She is the lead of the Short Films Team and has been creating videos for Ships2Shores since October 2020. Her big video project is putting together a video series introducing youth to various professionals in the marine industry. She has been interviewing various professionals and using the interviews to put together these videos.
She also has been putting together videos and social media for the Prince George Tapestry Singers as well as her own business, Port of Conversation.
In her spare time, she likes being out on the ocean and incorporating languages and music into her life.
Rui MachadoShips2Shores Skipper - Short Films
Rui is a youth who is part of the Ships2Shores National Skippers Council. He is a member of the Short Films Team and has been creating videos for Ships2Shores since November 2020.
Outside of S2S he is studying for a degree in Informatics Engineering.
In his spare time he enjoys listening to music and being out in nature.
